Friction or Flow?
The theme for this year’s event is Friction or Flow? Making the Boat Go Faster. The focus of the theme is on putting strategies and programmes in place to support business plans and successes, enabling ‘flow’ - not creating obstacles. HR is a strategic partner to the business and plays an important part in whether actions taken cause ‘friction’ in the business or create ‘flow’.
Making the Boat Go Faster
Sir Peter Blake led Team New Zealand to successive victories in the America’s Cup in 1995 and 2000, despite them not being considered a real contender, especially against the better financed American Stars and Stripes.
However, while the Americans had more money, New Zealand’s strategy was to measure everything against a simple question: “will it make the boat go faster?”.
The conference will address how this simple measure can be applied to decisions made by HR.
